 The Accommodation Club

History of The Club

Accommodation Club was founded in Zurich on August 19th 1989, in order "to foster research on cataract surgery designed to preserve and restore accommodation". Club Founders were Jean-Marie Parel, Okihiro Nishi, Eduard Haefliger, Fritz Treffers and Edward WD Norton.

"On the 19th of August 89, we were all at an international meeting in Zurich. Haefliger and Nishi were arguing a bit in the spirit of friendly competition - I told them we were very few and should work together, and Nishi suggested the idea of a club."

"The Club is not registered anywhere and has no charter or constitutions or by-laws ... we're a bunch of friends with a common goal." Jean-Marie Parel, Club President

Club Members

The Accommodation Club welcomes all researchers working in the area of accommodation, including clinicians, surgeons, scientists, engineers and industry.

Core members (called 'Chevaliers') help to organise meetings and maintain Club communications.
